Journal, 1944-1945.

Primarily contains poems and drawings documenting Mitchener's time in a German prisoner-of-war camp, Stalag Luft III in Sagan, Germany. Includes a list of cellmates, three autograph pages, and numerous drawings of locations in camp and depicting their movement to another camp in late January, 1945. Among the verses are song parodies on prison camp life sung to the tunes of Thanks for the memories and Stormy weather. Glued into the volume are Mitchener's POW identification with photograph, a 1944 Christmas service program, and the label from his first package from home in Nashville, Tennessee. Supporting documentation regarding Mitchener's capture obtained from the Air Force History Support Office is also included.
